Austrian artist Gustav Klimt [1862 - 1918] is one of my favourites. His work has always called to my soul with its wonderful symbolism beautifully entangled with his evocative female nudes. His use of bold colours in mosaic style patterns and gold leaf creates a radiance and fire that enhances the provocative nature of his subject. The sensual eroticism of his work is appealing in its subtlety, as the viewer witnesses private moments of passion and cant help being drawn into Klimt's vision.

ReplyDeleteGreat blog! Ps The first image above is not by Klimt. The original "Judith" is from 1901 and is masterfully painted. This one is clearly a copy done by a student. Please give Klimt his due and put the real one up :)
