Seung Mo Park

Seung Mo Park
Korean Artist

Park overlaps several layers of steel mesh and rotates them slightly so they are slightly out of line with one another -- leaving a space about two finger widths between. He then sketches the contours of the images of his models on steel meshes and cuts them out, creating a three-dimensionality in these contours. Depending on the viewer's standpoint, the images may look transparent, illusory, or shadowy. ~ http://www.blankspaceart.com/psm_pr.htm

Norman Lindsay [1879 - 1969]

Norman Lindsay was an Australian artist of extraordinary talent and one of my favourite artists of his time. "His first novel was published in 1913, and by the 1920s he was both proficient and prolific in pen and ink drawing, etching, woodcuts, watercolours and sculpture. Lindsay rejected Christianity, and his art depicts Bohemianism and Arcadian pantheism madly admixed in a fantasy world." www.normanlindsay.com.au

What I wouldn't give for one of his etchings!! I grew up in Sydney and often visited his home (now gallery) and gardens in the Blue Mountains. Walking through his personal space is like stepping back in time where the artist and his muses once lived and worked, or walking through his personal provocative wonderland. I am completely in awe of his beautifully detailed, evocative work. It is clear that mythology and the beauty of the female form captured his soul and this is expressed through his often controversial 'naughty' nudes.

Dreamfloating

Dreamfloating (I wish I knew her real name) is an amazing sculptor from the US. She works in plaster and the level of intricate detail is sublime, as she strives to present beauty through delicate form and embellishment.

The underlying point is simply 'beauty'. Making art that gives a sense of tranquility to the viewer. (This again, as explained in another part of the website, is why I shy away from rough, jagged surfaces, preferring rounded, soft forms.) On a personal level, as an artist, as a sculptor, it is ironic that in order to 'create beauty' you yourself in the process become 'less than beautiful'. It is only one day a week that I truly feel 'beautiful'. Beauty is Tranquility. And again, that is the ultimate underlying point, in much the same manner the Neoclassicists, Baroque, as well as Art Nouveau salon explored The Golden age of Ancient Greece-A sense of innocence & Rebirth. A return to better, simpler, idealized times. http://www.jyoung-studio.com/iconography.htm

Bruno Walpoth

Italian sculptor Bruno Walpoth's wooden sculptures are breathtakingly beautiful in their silent meditative poses. The life size figurative sculptures are very lifelike, they almost appear to have a soul, a spark of life which creates a desire in the viewer to reach out and touch, to engage with the work. The eyes of the sculptures and their gazes are very emotive, as they seem to silently attempt to communicate with the viewer or their maker. I wonder what they are feeling, what is it they are trying to say? The white wash finish on the wooden figures gives them an otherworldly ghost-like feel, as if they exist in this world but also in the one beyond, and by being in their presence the viewer also becomes part of another hidden world. Amazing!!
